The Unconference

June 20, 2016

Scott and I had the opportunity to travel last week to Nashville for the Capital Unconference: Healthcare Edition. It’s a non-traditional conference of healthtech startups and investors. The premise of the event is incredibly simple: no lectures, no workshops, no panel discussions, just meetings.

We met with a number of investors, including one based in Chicago that also made the trek to Tennessee for the Unconference. We also ran into two fellow MATTER-affiliated companies, and were surprised at just how familiar MATTER was to most of the individuals at the Unconference. It’s really a testament to the hard work of Steven Collens and the rest of the MATTER staff and the excellent job they’ve done of building a healthtech startup hub in the heart of Chicago.

Although we didn’t have much time to check out Nashville, Scott still managed to squeeze in a quick trip to Nash Vegas, or, as some affectionately call it, “The eighth wonder of Tennessee.” We haven’t yet figured out what the other seven are. We did get the chance to try some locally brewed George Dickel Tennessee Whiskey. We’ll have to see if we can find it in Chicago.

Hopefully, we’ll have an opportunity to return in the near future.
