• 📜 5000 B.C. – A Sumerian text blamed cavities on “tooth worms,” a belief not disproven until the 1700s.
• 🏺 2600 B.C. – The Egyptian scribe Hesy-Re was honored as “the greatest of those who deal with teeth.”
• 🧠 Ancient Greece – Hippocrates and Aristotle documented gum disease and tooth extractions.
• 🇨🇳 700 A.D. – Early Chinese texts described dental fillings made from amalgam.
• 📚 1530 – The first dentistry book, The Little Medicinal Book, was published in Germany.
• 🇫🇷 1700s – Pierre Fauchard, the “father of modern dentistry,” introduced structured dental care.
• 🇺🇸 1840 – The world’s first dental school opened in Baltimore, soon followed by the ADA (1859) and Harvard Dental (1867).
